History, publications and postdoctoral research.
My research career began at Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA. It all started in Dr. Kimberley Duff's research methods course. Originally, I thought I wanted to be a social psychologist and I conducted a research study on cognitive dissonance.
I transferred to California State University, Long Beach's (CSULB) Department of Psychology. During my undergraduate career at CSULB I continued to conduct research in:
Social psychology -- decision making (Dr. Young-Hee Cho)
Behavioral neuroscience -- traumatic brain injury of zebra finch hippocampus, neurogenesis and recovery of function (Dr. Diane Lee).
I later applied to and joined the M.S. in Psychology (Option – Human Factors), which kept me at CSULB's Department of Psychology for some years. My advisors were Drs. Thomas Z. Strybel and Kim-Phuong L. Vu.
During this time I conducted applied perception and cognition research in:
Aviation human factors -- psychometric development of situation awareness and mental workload (Drs. Thomas Z. Strybel and Kim-Phuong L. Vu)
Stimulus response compatibility -- crossmodal cueing and prevalence effects and bilingualism and verbospatial associations (Dr. Kim-Phuong L. Vu)
Multisensory integration -- aurally guided visual search (Dr. Thomas Z. Strybel)
Metacognition -- state-dependent arousal on memory and metamemory (Dr. William Kelemen)
I applied to graduate school at North Dakota State University. I was a student in the Department of Psychology's Ph.D. program in Visual and Cognitive Neuroscience. My adviser was Dr. Wolfgang A. Teder.
I conducted basic sensory perception research in:
Multisensory integration -- event-related potentials to elucidate neural mechanisms of peripersonal space and the multisensory topology of peri- and extra-personal space (Dr. Wolfgang A. Teder).
I graduated from the University of Copenhagen where I continued my research in sensory perception under the supervision of Dr. Matthias Gondan. I conducted multi-technique experiments on the multisensory integration of peripersonal space.
I was a postdoc at the Technical University of Denmark in the Technology and Innovation Management section of DTU Management Engineering. I was working with John Paulin Hansen on developing and implementing gaze-control into user interfaces that will be used by individuals with mobility disorders.
More recently, I applied visual perception principles to the design of font type faces for individuals with low vision. I utilized psychophysics paradigms and eyetracking to derive objective measures of reading performance.
