I think it's is incumbent upon Risk Management professionals to generate fear and paranoia about - well - just about everything. We need to give "the Public" things to stay awake about at night so they will hire us to try to stop things - while the people who want to start things also hire us to prove that the fears we just helped to raise are unfounded.
some things to work on:
- Desalination will increase the salt content of the oceans by stealing fresh water from it.
- Solar power plants might draw so much power from the Sun that it will burn out faster.
- the thrust of the propellers from large boats may change the ocean currents.
- satellites may be slowing the earth's rotation
- radio waves may be frying our brains and making them sterile - (and our gonads smarter?)
- wind turbines are stealing so much energy from the atmosphere that the winds will stop.
- if we don't allow more people to die of their own stupidity evolution will stop.
- the aliens are coming and they not be nice
- the aliens are not coming and they are nicer than we are
- the world will end
- the world won't end and will go on like this for a very long time
- if the world ends what happens to my iTunes collection?
