Peanut Butter Blossoms

1 3/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 cup sugar divided
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 Tablespoons milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 bag Chocolate kisses

Grease cookie sheets. Set oven to 375°. Mix dry ingredients together. Cream shortening, peanut butter, 1/2 cup sugar, and brown sugar. Stir in egg, milk, and vanilla. Blend well then stir in flour mixture 1/2 cup at a time mixing well after each addition. Form 1 1/2 inch balls and roll in remaining sugar. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet and bake about 8 minutes. Top each with an unwrapped kiss and bake 2 minutes more. Let them cook on pan for a couple of minutes and then remove to cooling rack. They will be soft but will harden some as they cool. Makes 3 dozen...I always double this recipe.
