This Ciné-concert or live-to-picture production is an awesome way of presenting Blade Runner in a different light.
I was fortunate to be involved in this project of bringing the movie Blade Runner to the stage. In 2007, I wrote lyrics to the splendidly crafted music by the group Memoria. The movie was projected on a screen accompanied by original music composed in a production titled Blade Runner: The Rock Project. It was rock-oriented but didn't neglect the cyberpunk ambiance.
In the BR-Rock Project, we presented a new way of viewing the neo-noir film Blade Runner. The idea was to translate, in music and in words, the over-industrialized, multi-ethnic, dehumanized, polluted environment depicting a dystopian future, with a focus on the storyline and the characters' relationships and feelings.
The songs paired with the scenes, savoring every key element in the film. The music enhanced the vision, whilst the lyrics, written by C.A. Chicoine, reinforced the story.
In all, twenty-five songs (of which eight are instrumentals) were written for this production, spanning the entire length of the film.
Listen as the angelic voice of Carolina Di Gregorio shines through, strong and expressive on these samples. The instrumental The Esper Machine showcases the talents of Marco Spatuzzi's guitar virtuosity and keyboardist extraordinaire Alessandro Bianconi. Perfect lets bassist Gianfranco Vigneri and drummer Federico Berchi take the lead in this up-tempo song, displaying their intricate and tight performance.
Below are some examples of this production performed by Memoria.
