Is it possible to make a self replicating machine? How and what are the consequences?
I am always fascinated about machines that make machines, but to take this a step further, one day machines will be able to make themselves without human interventions. I think this is the most economical way for deep space exploration anyway. Instead of making all the machines on earth and send them off, a self-replicating machine can be sent. Making use of the resources available in the space, more machines can be produced. In addition to self-replicating, all they need to be able to do is drifting, sensing and communicating with people on earth. This way, just a matter of time, we can collect a wealth of knowledge about the space. But what I'm more interested in are the consequences on earth, imagine what will happen if machines can produce themselves? One thing for sure is that these machines can proliferate exponentially. If we are still in control of it all, we all shouldn't need to work and should just sit back and relax to see how the world gets better every day.
Why some countries are so poor? How can they become rich?
From science point of view, starvation should not happen to anyone of us in the planet. There is more than enough food to feed every one of us and our pets. Our planet is so resourceful such that even most of us don't go to work, we should still be able to live in an abandon life. In the reality, however, right now nearly 1 billion people are starving. The number is going to rise as the world's economy is going to struggle. Surely geological variations cause uneven wealth distribution. Nonetheless, the result of starvation we see today is totally man-made. Thanks to the intelligence of our human species, we are so good at creating wars, polluting and wasting survival resources, and creating a monetary system that only favors a few individuals.
