C-41 Prints from B&W film negatives - 9 / 18" x 14"

Kim Borst

This is a continuation of the 1994 “dis” series and is specifically concerned with the dichotomy or disconnect of what is predictably presumed versus what is actually perceived. In other words the difference between “casually looking” and “actively seeing.” These photographic images are intentionally off registered because in addition to being exposed with a negative in the enlarger they were at the same time contact printed through a separate lith negative of the same image. The resulting off registered image in conjunction with the unnatural color and the somewhat predictable subject of the natural environment presents a disconnection between what is expected and what is actually perceived.

Like the 1994 “dis” series these images were also three stage exposures, wrought from black and white film, printed with color enlarger, using C-41 chemistry and C-41 color photographic paper.
