Kimberla's School of Classical Ballet invites your school to experience the magic that has captivated hundreds of students across Cleveland and surrounding counties through our engaging Educational Performances.
Students are invited to attend a special showing of The Nutcracker and/or Swan Lake for a reduced rate of just $8.00 per student. For many, this is will be their first opportunity to experience the wonder of live ballet in a professional theatre setting.
These performances align with several North Carolina Essential Standards in dance and theatre arts offering a rich learning experience. Students will explore how dance communicates stories through movement, serves as artistic and cultural expression, and reflects global tradition and history.
· The Nutcracker is based on “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by E.T.A. Hoffman.
· Swan Lake draws from the German fairy tale, “The Lake of Swans”.
Both ballets are set to the timeless music of Russian composer Peter Tchaikovsky, composed in the late 19th century.
As a special addition to our educational performances, all Nutcracker attendees will enjoy a guided tour of the brand-new Nutty for Nutcrackers Museum, home to the largest Nutcracker display east of the Mississippi. The collection includes everything from military-themed Nutcrackers to whimsical characters and beyond!
Students will also have time to enjoy their bagged lunch in a secure, fenced-in picnic area behind the museum and participate in Nutcracker-themed crafts for a fun, hands-on learning experience.
To help extend the learning beyond the stage, teachers will receive a comprehensive educator resource guide with engaging classroom activities connected to the performance.
All performances will be held at the Joy Performance Center in Kings Mountain.
