Kenny Anderson

Kenny used molecular techniques, microbial culturing, and scanning electron microscopy to characterize 

the bacteria that live on Plethodontid salamander skin. 

Kenny also generated libraries for 16s rDNA surveys using next generation sequencing.

Matt Spano

Matt used PCR and gateway cloning to make bone-specific reporter constructs with Xenopus tropicalis DNA. 

Jasper Leavitt

Jasper has done several projects in the lab on the interactions between microbes and salamander embryos and adults. 

Kalli Qutub 

Kalli has worked on the potential vertical transmission of probiotic bacteria in the eastern redbacked salamander, Plethodon cinereus.

Huanjia Zhang 

Huanjia used qPCR to quantify algal symbionts in Ambystoma maculatum and Ambystoma gracile. 

He is now using RT-PCR on experiments of algal physiology. 

Elizabeth Hill 

Liz has worked on multiple sectioning, staining, and imaging techniques for the A. maculatum - algal symbiosis.

Michaelyn Cornish 

Michaelyn used Gibson cloning to make reporter constructs in Xenopus tropicalis.

Maggie DeBell 

Matt has begun an ambitious set of experiments on how microbes effect tail regeneration. 

Cristina is our resident histology wiz. She has been working with E. coqui and Pelthodon cinereus embryos.

Elliana Vickers

Elli has brought some excellent microbiology skills to bear on questions of  community dynamics. 

Matt has spent grueling hours in front of QIIME2 to master amplicon sequence analysis. 

River Larson-Pollock

River worked on a range of microbiology and sequencing projects as well as lab management and Developmental Biology course prep.
