The purpose of education is to steer students in the right direction so that they are able to lead great and successful lives. Success is interpreted in different ways for different people, but when it comes to children, all they care about is the real world and how things in the classroom can relate. This is why, as a future educator, it is important for me to show students that what you learn in school closely relates to real life situations. Doing so will show my students how much I care about them and their future, and that I am not only there because it is my job.
Being a teacher means more to me than just doing what is required and collecting a paycheck. I will not only be there to educate my students, but I will be there for them emotionally as well. I want my classroom to be a caring, open environment that makes students feel welcome and safe. As a teacher, it is important for me to be accepting of all children and all of their differences. Diversity is a huge part of schools today; not just diversities that are visible, but learning diversities as well. I plan to incorporate all of the different learning styles into my lessons so that each student’s strengths are hit during every unit. As well as fully understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each individual student of mine so that I can help them reach their full potential.
I want my students to feel comfortable enough to talk to me about any issues they may have in, or outside of, the classroom. This is where parent’s involvement comes in, and this is only possible with as much communication from myself as possible. I plan to send monthly letters covering the content that will be covered during that month in the classroom. I will also offer conferences as often as possible so that the parents feel comfortable enough to share any ideas or issues with me at any time.
Students do not like being looked down on; they like to feel important and feel as if they have some control over what they do in the classroom. This is why I will work hard to have a great hold on my classroom management and have communication between my students and myself open at all times. I will be the teacher that makes a positive impact on my student’s lives. I will be there for the children in my class and will inspire them to do great things. To do this, I will be accepting to change because things will not always work out as planned. I will be open to new and different ideas and will constantly be evaluating my teaching skills.
