I recommend using plastic wrap and a tortilla press. The plastic wrap makes cleanup easier and after you get the knack, it makes pressing (and dropping the raw tortilla onto the pan) easier. But if you choose to use different tools - awesome. Use what works for you.
Tortilla presses come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The typical corn tortilla that you see in the store will require an 8 inch press. I prefer a 10 inch press so that I can make my tortillas small or large.
Cast Iron presses are heavy and they do a good job, but presses are made in a variety of materials. Whatever works for you is perfect. Sometimes tortilla presses are sold with some kind of plastic sheets, to be used when pressing tortillas. I've never bought these. To me they're just another accessory that the seller wants me to buy. Aluminum tortilla presses are much lighter than the iron and can work just as well.
This is a random picture from online. This is a tortilla press sold at Amazon. I am not recommending the brand, it's just a picture I pulled as an example.
