He married Elizabeth Eady ABT 1825, daughter of Robert Eady and Mary Hearst/Hurst. She was born 01 Jan 1804 in near London, England, and died Feb 1884 in Trowbridge, Allegan Co., MI.

John Hicks was born, May 26, 1793, in Oxfordshire, England, and was a soldier in the British service; he was on the route to America in 1813 to take part in the second struggle between the Colonies and Great Britain, when the vessel foundered on the coast of Newfoundland, and the soldiers were ordered back to England, arriving there seasonably to take part in the battle of Waterloo. John came to Canada in 1815, and took up a farm near Ottawa, where he resided until, March, 1837, the date of his coming to Michigan. He first reached Detroit and came thence on foot to Allegan County, where he secured his claim of land from the Government, returning to Canada for his family, whom he brought to this State in 1838. He died on his farm in Watson Township, Sept. 14, 1877. They had 14 children----Thomas, Mary, Joyce, John, Jane, Elizabeth, Delilah, Ann, George, Robert, Hannah, Emily, Robert (2nd) and Martha.
On removal to Michigan, John found himself at Detroit with his wife, six children and one dollar in money. On leaving the place in Allegan County, where he had built a small log house to shelter his family, he had engaged a man to meet him at Detroit with a team, to transport them to their home, but nothing was to be seen of either team or man, and the father, mother and six little ones walked to Battle Creek, a distance of nearly 100 miles, where they met the expected assistance.

Albion
Phyllis J. Foster, 82, of Albion, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Oaklawn Hospital, Marshall. Born January 13, 1925 in Albion, MI, she was the daughter of Robert and Starr (Reed) Hicks. Phyllis had been employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company, Fabricators in Marshall, and McGraw-Edison Co.
She belonged to the Albion World Outreach, Clarence Township Senior Citizens Group, and she enjoyed leisure time reading, working puzzles, and visiting friends and family.
On November 25, 1947 she married Earl Paul Foster, and he preceded her in death in 2001. Survivors include 3 daughters, Nancy (Jesus) Guerra of San Antonio, TX, Carol (Donald) Wright of Battle Creek, JoAnn (John) Cripe of Springport; 3 sons, Jack (Luane) McAuliffe of Marshall, Edward (Penny) Foster of Orlando, FL, David (Ellen) Foster of Lansing; 1 sister, Kay Troutman of Newberry; numerous grandchildren and great-grand-children; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her son, Barry; daughter-in-law, Georgette; grandson, Jame-son; 2 brothers, Robert and Graydon; and her twin sister, Connie Vail.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, with Pastor Steve Meszaras officiating. Interment in Albion Memory Gardens will follow. Visitations are scheduled Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials to Albion World Outreach or the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.
