Kate Ambler

I am a Senior Research Fellow in the Markets, Trade, and Institutions Unit at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). My research broadly focuses on intervetions that can increase incomes for smallholders and other microenterprises in agri-food value chains, with an emphasis on the inclusion of women. This includes work on innovations in agricultural finance, regulatory solutions for food safety, and programming in fragile settings. I also study policies and programs that can improve women's agency, migration and remittances, and measurement issues.

I have experience with research conducted using randomized control trials, framed field experiments, and secondary data. I have worked on projects in sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South America, and Asia. I have also been an Adjunct Professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University. I completed my Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Michigan, specializing in development economics and economic demography.
