This third offering from the composer effortlessly navigates a diverse range of sonic landscapes, striking a fresh balance between the traditional electronics of the past and the quasi-orchestral layers that he unfolds in intricate counterpoints and arabesques and sound geometries, similar and yet so very different from things orchestral.

KiNO's ability to seamlessly blend between resonances of a Klangfarbenmelodie past and the precise nuances of a modern cinematic soundtrack is truly poetic. The result is an immersive listening experience that takes the audience to unexpected depths and unexplored territories and -- yes, Virginia -- images.

For example "Thylacine", the initial piece, takes name and sonorities from an extinct marsupial tiger which was last seen in the flesh in 1938. You can feel the "cat" nature in the instruments used or designed for the piece. The rest of the album shows the same attention to detail, from the vastness of flying cities buoyed on "gravity cloth" to the lilting, poly-rhythm-morphing "Chacona" that closes the collection. Makes one think of Tomita's work, but with wholly original music.
