Well, Wendy, since you asked
, it started only a few days before we left for our 35 day vacation & cruise. Talking to my family, I was saying how I wish I could take them with me. Somehow it went from bringing a photo of them to bringing a doll of them & photographing them in different places. My oldest DIL said to take her picture by the Colosseum, and on the deck, and having a gelato... So I thought of a way - I found some old white shirts that a DD was getting rid of. Made a paper pattern from a file folder - like a paper doll silhouette. Cut 2 pieces of fabric for each doll. Found photos of faces from my computer that I cropped and printed onto iron-on T-shirt paper. Sewed the 2 halves together, turned them inside out, ironed the faces on & stuffed them with polyfill. Found doll clothes at Dollar Tree, enough different ones for my 8 kids/grandkids, including fatigues for my USAF son, and a Police outfit for young DD who wants to be a cop. (This DD was coming with us for the first half of the cruise, but I said I'd take her to Athens.) The hardest part was the hair. I tried different things - all look silly, but that's okay, it IS silly! I was surprised at the reaction I got - lots of interest when I carried these around to photograph them. We decided to only take two on each port day, most of the time. A couple of the faces cracked, but it was a long trip for them. I included text for fun & gave them nicknames based somewhat on their real names. Oldest DIL would like to start a business with it!
