I called this page Great Shalom because of my favorite Bible verse: Isaiah 54:13. It says, "And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD, and great shall be the peace of thy children." The word "peace" here is the Hebrew word "shalom", which means safety, peace, prosperity, wholeness. In the Amplified Bible the phrase used is "undisturbed composure". Bible scholar Billye Brim & others who study the Hebrew language have said that "shalom" means "nothing missing, nothing broken." I add to that, "nothing damaged, nothing crooked", because something damaged may not technically be broken, but is still not "whole." The same with something crooked. Are crooked teeth or bones damaged? Not necessarily.
Being "taught of the LORD" can mean being taught about God, as my children have been from childhood. It also means by God. As all my children have been dedicated to God, I trust God Himself to lead them and teach them all the days of their lives.
So there you have my favorite verse and it's full meaning, as I see it to be.
