Position papers are an important part of delegate preparation. They require delegations to illustrate their knowledge of the agenda items and recommend courses of action for the Organization. Areas of evaluation for position papers are overall quality of writing, accurate country representation, consistency with the constraints of the United Nations, and strong proposal of solutions. In order for a position paper award to be conferred, the paper must be submitted at check-in at the conference. Delegates may also submit copies to nnmodelunitednations@gmail.com.
The following are the requirements for position papers:
- Approximately two pages in length (excluding citations)
- Third-person perspective (written from the point of view of the country)
- 12-point Times New Roman front
- Double-spaced
- 1-inch margins (top, bottom, left, right)
- Listed at the upper left corner of the first page of the paper: country/position, delegate name, school, committee, and agenda item
- Citations in any style, as long as they are consistent
We recommend that position papers include these parts:
- how the agenda item relates to the country (including the country's history with the item)
- the official position of the country on the item (including what the country has done to address the issue domestically and internationally)
- solutions to the issue that are amenable to the country.
