March 3: The first day of class.
March 10: "Introduce Yourself" on March 17 (Tuesday). Prepare a presentation to introduce yourself to your classmates.
March 17: Student presentation on "Who am I?" and " What do I want to learn/achieve in this class?" Prepare your presentation in 3 minutes or less.
March 19: Student presentation is completed today. Next week, we will discuss both Day 5 & 6 lecture notes. Please read the first two chapters of your textbook.
Mar 30: This week, we will discuss materials in Day 7-9 lecture notes. Please read chapter 3 of your textbook.
April 2: We will use the code "KNN_reg.R" today. Please find it in "Data and Code" directory.
April 16: Group assignment for the coming Project 1 is completed. We have 12 groups in total.
April 20: Topics for Project-1 will be distributed in class tomorrow. We will discuss relevant details to work on topics.
April 21: Project 1, submission date: May 4 (Monday), 5pm, via email. Presentation date: May 7 (Thursday).
April 23: Today each group will have a chance to choose their topic for Project-1.
April 27: I have uploaded new class notes. If you can, please read Day 16 note before the class tomorrow.
May 4: Today is the submission date for the group project-1. Please do so by 5pm. I am in my office today (#711), You can stop by for last minute questions.
May 5: Groups to present on Thursday. Group 6, 2, 8, 10, 3. Prepare a 10-minute presentation, followed by a 2-minute Q&A.
May 12: On Thursday, I will distribute topics for Project 2 in class.
May 14: I distributed topics for the second group project in class. The submission date is May 26, Tuesday, by 9PM. And the target presentation date is May 28, Thursday.
May 27: Project 2 - groups presenting tomorrow: Groups 5, 6, 11, 2, 9 (in this order).
May 27: Please prepare a 10-minute presentation followed by 2 minutes for Q&A. Practice is important. Think carefully about the main findings and key messages of your research and focus on them. You do not need to explain every detail in your presentation slide. It is also advisable for each group member to share the presentation time equally.
May 28: The upcoming final project was announced today. Here are some details:
You may choose your own group (preferably with three members or fewer) and a topic of your choice. You may also continue working on a topic from one of the previous projects, but you should demonstrate some new idea and development.
The tentative presentation dates are June 16 (Tuesday) and June 18 (Thursday). Every group will present this time. Your grade will be based not only on the quality of your slides but also on the quality of the presentation itself.
Also, I would like to correct a mistake from today’s class. I mistakenly mentioned that the presentation dates would be June 23 and 25. However, the final week of the spring semester begins on June 15, so the presentations will instead take place on June 16 and 18.
June 2: Further announcement for the Final project:
As discussed previously, please choose your own topic and make your own group.
Submission deadline: June 15, 9pm.
Name your file as "ML_project3_group*_name1_name2_name3.pdf".
Presentation date: June 16 & 18.
Be prepared to present your project when you come to class on Tuesday, June 16. Presenting groups will be selected randomly on Tuesday and the remaining groups will present on Thursday.
Because presentating later can be advantageous, I will take the presentation schedule into account when evaluating presentation performance.
June 11: This week, we are having one-on-one meetings with the final project groups. Please come see me during or after class to discuss your project topic, data, and analysis.
June 16: Today is the first day of the final presentations. Please do not be late. All groups should be prepared to present today.
