Lord Krebs, Master of Jesus College, Oxford, conducted the largest statistical survey, lasting seven years, into the effect of culling badgers to limit the spread of TB in cattle. His team concluded that culling badgers would be ineffective at reducing TB. Yet the government has ignored his recommendations and is going ahead with badger culls. Julian Champkin spoke to him about badgers, blue tits and advising politicians about science.
