Hello and welcome
On this site, you can find information about the psychotherapy and counselling services I offer in Market Harborough. There are also sections on Integrative therapy, my training and ethics, and how you can get in touch with me.
Why try therapy?
I imagine you’ve come here because you or somebody close to you is struggling with an emotional problem. It may be a relationship issue, feeling anxious or depressed, suffering a loss, or dealing with unwelcome changes in your life. You’ve already tried your best, and you’re now looking further.
Meeting with a therapist gives you the opportunity to talk in confidence and safe from judgement. I listen closely to you and I support you so you can tell it like it is, express your thoughts and feelings, make time for yourself. Often, just talking openly brings some relief.
The next steps
Once we have met, you can make an informed decision on how you’d like to proceed. If you need support during a difficult time, for example going through a divorce or exam period, we could agree to meet for a fixed number of sessions. Or perhaps you suffer with feelings, thoughts and behaviours that have troubled you before. Mostly, recognising and changing underlying patterns takes longer, so we might contract to work open-ended.
Your goals, your pace
In one of the first sessions, I will ask you to choose a goal. Working with a goal in mind allows you to see how you progress and change. Naturally, no goal is set in stone, and you also set the pace. Whether we meet for a few times or many months, I will invite you to review the process along the way and consider the appropriate time for ending.
The therapeutic relationship
Therapy is not a miracle cure; it takes time and you may feel worse before things improve. Feeling safe with your therapist is essential when exploring emotional, sometimes messy issues and working through difficult feelings. I have many years of experience in this field, and I bring respect, compassion, understanding and patience to every meeting with a client.
