Our Patriots

Judge David Lynn

Judge David Lynn held his commission under King George of England and was one of the twelve "Immortal Judges" who, on November 23, 1765, decided that before the English Stamp Act would be recognized by the Maryland Courts, the Courts must be officially notified of the passage of that Act. This ruling was considered an act of treason against the English Crown and was one of the first of the various actions against England which resulted in the revolt of the colonists.

In memory of this courageous stand, a large bronze tablet was erected in the Courthouse at Frederick, Maryland, by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1904. November 23rd was designated as Repudiation Day by the Maryland General Assembly and is a legal bank half-holiday in Frederick County.

Our Daughters descend from Patriots as diverse as they are.
