I was born and grew up on the wonderful Faroe Islands.
The Faroe Islands are located in the North Atlantic, 62o'N 7o'W. From the sea rise 18 proud islands covering an area of 1,400 km2. The population is (few but strong) 54,000. The Faroe Islands are part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but not part of the EU, and have since 1948 had a home rule government, Løgtingið.

The No.1 islands in the world according to National Geographics, Places Rated - be inspired "where nature rules"
- you will constantly be reminded that "nature always has the last word on these volcanic mountains"
If you make it to my hometown, Tvøroyri, I recommend visiting SALT - Sound Art Live Theatre. I was a board member of the SALT-silo-fund 2010-2014 during the years funding to restore and repurpose the historic building was secured and the adaptive reuse began.
There is also a university on the Faroe Islands, Fróðskaparsetur Føroya. It was founded in 1965, largely expanded following the 2008 Faroese Parliamentary Act on the University of the Faroe Islands, and I was an external member in the Board of Directors for two four-year periods 2009-2016.
Faroe Islanders are true sports enthusiasts. I spent a lot of my youth on sports, and was very involved in the local volleyball (TB) and table tennis (TBF) clubs - playing, organizing, and coaching. At the national team level, some of my most memorable moments are participating in the annual Nordic (NEVZA) U19 Championship in volleyball in 1996, 1997 (team captain), and 1998 (team captain) and in the bi-annual International Island Games (IIGA) in table tennis in 1995 (youngest player on team) and in volleyball in 1997 (bronze, youngest player on team), 1999 (gold), 2003 (gold), and 2005 (gold, team captain). I "retired" from the national team when academic work also required me to travel, but I still enjoyed competing and playing locally with my awesome volleyball teammates in Aarhus and Stockholm before moving to the other side of the North Atlantic. Now most of my non-work time is enjoyed with my family and amazing daughters - playing whatever and wherever our imagination takes us...
