J. Alan Smothers was born and raised amongst the green, rolling hills in the heartland that is Iowa, then relocated to Arizona in his early twenties.
During a collegiate career that culminated in a master's degree, he majored in Journalism, and wrote for and edited a small college newspaper. He has placed a short story highly in the Mainstream/Literary category in the annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition, and his first novel advanced to the quarterfinals of the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award competition.
He currently still lives in a suburb of Phoenix, where he is working steadfastly on his third novel.
