In the 1980s, I was an On Air Personality. It was a part-time gig after working my day job. For a few years, I enjoyed spinning the platters and rolling the audio tapes up and down the Middle Of The Road ladder ... Abba to Zappa. The radio station was located in Hazlet NJ. The station was known as WVRM-FM. It was sold years later.
With the little spare time that I had left, I felt the need for more of the limelight in Boston MA and Cleveland OH. I loved doing my "schtick" on college radio. Those were the good old days!!! After many years of honing my "craft", I graduated from the Connecticut School Of Broadcasting on November 5th 1990 with a diploma in my hand.
I have an eclectic taste in hobbies and other interests. Over the years I have enjoyed: Amateur Radio, Art, Ballet, Cinema, College Sports, Community Theatre, Computers, Disability Issues, Easy Crossword Puzzles, Museums, Music and the Opera. Allow me to continue ... Poetry, Quiet Times, Radio, Reading, Romancing My Favorite Girl, Sky Watching, Symphonies, TV, US Travel and Writing Short Prose. I love cats, children, dogs and goldfish. My favorite color is Crayola Super Happy Laser Lemon. Since Brenda's passing, I've been writing short prose. Some of my writing is "dark". As of late is has become a bit "lighter". The music that I enjoy is just my personal taste: 30s and 40s Big Bands, 60s and 70s, 80s, Christian Contemporary, Classic Jazz, Merengue, R&B, Salsa, Soul, Southern Gospel, Standards, Talk Radio (No politics), Traditional Classical and Traditional Country. I also have an XM Radio.
In November 2001, I was blessed in learning how to drive again with adaptive equipment. After rehabilitation, I purchased a 2002 Saturn SL1. It was modified with a left foot gas pedal. Here are two photos.
In May 2004, I traded in the SL1 for the 2004 Saturn VUE. It is modified as well with the left foot gas pedal. Here are two more photos.
On December 10th 2005, I was blessed for a second time. After months of study, I applied for an Amateur Radio License after passing a 35 question exam. My first call sign was KI4MZD. I requested a "vanity" call sign under K4WIC on January 21st 2006. The call sign I acquired has a meaning behind it. It was given to me by a close friend of mine who was employed with me at the corporate office way back when. He is no longer with us. We met as widowers in 2003, where he saw me in my wheelchair. I was appropriately named "Wheeled Iron Chariot Sr". I will always be grateful to him for his kindness and friendship over the years. On June 28th 2006, I attended several SKYWARN network seminars and became a Certified Weather Spotter for the National Weather Service in Columbia SC on October 24th 2006. Here are the two certificates.
I was blessed for a third time in August 2006, another milestone came. One new prosthetic leg was manufactured for me. It was a decent piece of machinery, but I outgrew it. But fear not ... there this more to this story. In August 2009, I was fitted with a newer model and I outgrew it in 2017. To re-manufacture a new one was not financially possible. I use my wheelchair ... full time.
When it rains ... it POURS!!! On Wednesday October 3rd 2007, I was blessed by more good fortune. I was fully immersed in water by baptism at Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia SC. I'm very happy to be associated with fellow believers. I feel so blessed, grateful and thankful to one and all who are in my life at this time.
It's update time on February 12th 2012!!! After all these years as a amateur radio operator of the Technician Class ... I received a General Class License after passing another 35 question exam. On March 13th 2012, I was certified as a VE (Volunteer Examiner) by the WCARS/VEC (Western Carolina Amateur Radio Society).
One more update ... It was time to say goodbye to my 2004 Saturn VUE. It was put out to pasture so to speak, on a farm somewhere in SC. I see it regularly, here in town. On September 13th 2016, I purchased the newest ride in the "Fleet", a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan (Braun Ability) from Ilderton Conversion Company located in North Charleston SC. This past January 2023, the "Fleet" has been downsized. I now have the "Wheeled Iron Chariot Jr" as a sole vehicle. Good things happen to those who wait!!!
