Howard County Public Schools, Office of Secondary Mathematics

Jon is the Coordinator of Secondary Mathematics for the Howard County Public School System. His duties include:

• Supervising teachers of middle and high school mathematics classes through formal/informal observations, portfolio development, cooperative program review, and peer coaching;
• Collaborating with staff to support the development and implementation of interventions that help all students be successful in mathematics;
• Directing workshop committees in the evaluation, development, and revision of curriculum and assessment materials;
• Supporting inservice teachers, principals, and other staff in the implementation of curriculum;
• Planning and conduct inservice programs and professional development for teachers;
• Advising schools in the review selection of new instructional materials and equipment;
• Conducting demonstrations of exemplary teaching methods and classroom management techniques;
• Assisting in planning and managing the Secondary Mathematics budget;
• Attending Board of Education meetings and public budget hearings; and
• Working collaboratively with school staff and personnel in other school system programs.

Elementary Mathematics Specialists & Teacher Leaders (ems&tl) Project

Founded in 2009, McDaniel College’s Elementary Mathematics Specialists and Teacher Leaders Project (ems&tl) is supported by the Wisconsin Mathematics Institute. Jon served as the project manager, working collaboratively with project director, Dr. Francis (Skip) Fennell, and ems&tl project senior consultant, Beth Kobett.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics

Wray served a three year term (2012-15) as a member of the NCTM Board of Directors. The NCTM Board of Directors has the responsibility for setting direction, establishing policy, and overseeing the activities of the Council. Jon was a member of the Board's Executive Committee, the Board Liaison of NCTM's Emerging Issues Committee and serves on the Council's Membership Committee.

Association of Maryland Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMMTE)

Jon is a past-president of AMMTE, a state affiliate organization of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE), which is the largest professional organization devoted to the improvement of mathematics teacher education.

Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM)

Jon is a past-president of MCTM, a state affiliate organization of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the world's largest mathematics professional organization.
