Quote 1:
"When the gong sounds, get the hell out of there. You're neither of you up to the blood bath at the Cornucopia. Just clear out, put as much distance as you can between yourself and the others, and find a source of water." Page 138-139
I chose this because it shows that Haymitch is very serious about the games. He is using his own experiance of being in the games, and his knowlege of watching the games over the years to give great advice. No matter how drunk he is he will alway be serious about the games. It's his job to keep the tributes alive, and he will help them if they listen to his every word. If the tributes don't listen to him chances are they will not survive. The tributes will do something stupid and get themself killed. Where as if the listen to Haymitch they would survive longer.
Quote 2:
"And, Peeta she's right, never underestimate strength in the arena. Very often, phyical power tilts the advantage to a player. In the Training Center, they will have weights, but don't reveal how much you can lift in front of the other tributes. The plan's the same for both of you. You go to group training. Spend the time trying to learn something you don't know. Throw a spear. Swing a mace. Learn to tie a decent knot. Save what you're best at until your private sessions. Are we clear?" Page 91- 92
I choose this quote for two main reasons. First it shows Haymitch is very serious about the games. He is using his own experiance and being a mentor for many years to give Katniss and Peeta the best advice. Also by him being vey picky at what he wants Katniss and Peeta to do it show he truly cares about them. He is more concerned about them learning some new then showing off at what they are best at. He want them to come out of the training center ten times better then they were before. When someone, in this case Haymitch, wants you to better yourself in any way this shows that this person truly loves you and cares about your well being. For example, why do you think parents send you to school? They do it so you can use what you learn in school to use it in real life situtions. By them sending you to school it shows they love you. Your parents want you to be ten times better than they were.
