Philosophy and Vision
“In a school that practices learning-literacy, teachers model learning, students learn to teach themselves, and schools educate the community.“ -- David Warlick
This is my vision for an excellent School Library Media Program:
Libraries are places where students can work together to explore and create, to use new technology as they learn about the world.
Every student has leadership genius. Every student brings unique skills and knowledge with them into the school. Librarians foster that genius by providing opportunities for students to set academic and social goals that build on their existing skills and knowledge so that they develop to their full potential.
Librarians foster lifelong learning and student achievement by providing "just-right" books for students at every stage of their reading lives.
Librarians work together with teachers to design and implement lesson plans that teach students twenty-first century information literacy skills.
Libraries exist beyond the media center, providing resources in the classroom and on the Internet, so that every member of the community can use its resources – including the librarian’s expertise - wherever they need, whenever they want.
