    • Teaching is not time taken away from research; it is another form of research. Teaching necessarily allows me to be a better researcher. It requires me to learn the material with greater depth. It helps me develop an ability to explain processes and improve my reasoning and writing skills. As an instructor, I emphasize the assessment of information through writing and critically engaging evidence in the world with a sociological lens. I look forward to designing additional courses and seek ways to incorporate current sociological findings and methods in my courses. My background in cultural sociology, political

    • sociology, and comparative historical analyses allows me to teach courses in sociological theory, transnational and global societies, topics in Korean society, Asian studies, research methods, and design for qualitative and mixed methods.

    • I will emphasize writing in the classroom. I believe students will absorb and articulate their ideas best when they are asked to write about them. The students have found it beneficial if they devoted time in polishing papers that contained developed ideas and self-directed research versus writing short papers frequently. I will continue to incorporate in-class exercises for peer and self-editing. Through the assigned readings, I expect students to become better referents of historical information and contemporary affairs. I will assign historical materials and have students draw from current news issues they wish to discuss.
