INSTRUCTORs
Chief Instructor, Robin Reid Sensei - 5th Dan
Robin Sensei started karate with KUGB in 1981 as part of his school youth club. He continued training at Bradford University under Sensei Dave Marshall, still with KUGB.
In the mid-1990s he moved clubs to join Kirkstall Karate Club under Sensei Phil Heron (SKI). He progressed through his Kyu grades, all of which were undertaken by senior Dan grades, including Sensei Bob Rhodes (KUGB), Sensei Enoeda (KUGB) and Sensei Asano (SKI).
In 2002, the Kirkstall club closed down and he went on a hunt for a new place to train, before discovering JKS Bradford. Since then he has graded to Shodan under Kagawa Sensei, Nidan under Yamaguchi Sensei, Sandan under Yamaguchi Sensei, Yondan under Kagawa Shihan and Kanayama Sensei, and Godan under Kagawa Shihan.
He has taken part in various tournaments, including the JKS World Championships in Okinawa in 2007. He has also written a number of karate articles that have been published in magazines, both online and in print.
Assistant Instructor, Katelyn Entwistle - 1st Dan
Katelyn Sensei began karate in 2005 and progressed through her Kyu grades under Sensei Matt Price and Sensei Bob Rhodes. She went on to earn her Shodan black belt in 2013 under Kagawa Shihan. She then focused on competition, particularly kata, and changed clubs to train with Sensei Ady Grey. In 2014, she was selected onto the English Karate Federation's Kata Squad and went on to become WSKU European Champion at the 6th European Shotokan Championships, and World Champion at the 3rd World Shotokan Cup.
From 2015 to 2018, Katelyn returned to Shito-Ryu karate, winning numerous international titles. She trained around the world with top WKF kata athletes and coaches, maintaining the highest senior female kata ranking for GB. At home, she coached juniors to international success and taught karate to aspiring athletes with disabilities. In 2018, she became the Under 21's Commonwealth Kata Champion, also winning a bronze medal in the Senior Female Kata event.
In 2019, a serious injury ended Katelyn's competition career. The pandemic caused further disruption, and then in 2022 she suffered a major bereavement. Finally, in 2024, her passion for karate was reignited by Robin Reid Sensei. She is now teaching and promoting karate at JKS Bradford, helping others to progress in this martial art.
