Faith Chapter 2
The Work of Tilling the Ground
Jesus uses the analogy of planting and working the field in several places. The parables and references are about introducing the souls of men to the kingdom of God. In the parable of the sower told in three of the four Gospels he describes telling men about the kingdom of God as analogous to a farmer sowing seeds where the seeds are the word sown into men's lives. In several places Jesus tells parables about the harvest which is clearly the reaping of the souls of men. Before the great two day revival Jesus held in Samaria, where a whole city was won for the Lord, he refers to the harvest. Similarly when he sent out the 72 to spread the kingdom of God, he talked about the harvest. At one point Jesus in talking about the crowds talked bout the lack of a shepherd and the need for harvesters.
In the parables of Jesus the work in the fields either planting or harvesting is the spreading of the Good News of Jesus to bring the souls of men into the kingdom of God. We all are called to spread the Good New of the kingdom of God.
