JilMac's list of Probability Formula's
Key: ∩ = and = *
∪ = o r = +
| = Given note: sometimes the Pipe "|" is implied ex. P(A|B) = P(AB)
Rolling a Set of Dice - probability of the sums of the two die
Formula = 6 different outcomes with 2 dice = 6^2 = 6* 6 = 36
https://www.math.upenn.edu/~deturck/m170/wk7/lecture/basicprob.html
Rolling Dice are Independent - the first Dice is INDEPENDENT from the second Die
Each roll of the Dice is an independent event because the dice can't change.
Selecting Marbles from a bag - COULD be INDEPENDENT IF you "put the marbles back in that you selected" so you have the same amount and/or colors that you selected from initially.
Selecting Marbles from a bag IS DEPENDANT IF you "Don't put the marbles back" and select again.
P = You Study for Tests
Q = You Get a Good Grade
Three Dots = THEREFORE
~p = You did NOT study for the Text
~q = You did NOT get a good grade
The symbolic form would be:
Truth Table
I like the way Math is Fun explains the Set Theory Symbols and gives good explinations https://www.mathsisfun.com/sets/symbols.html
A u B = Union = OR = in A or in B (this will be a larger set in most cases)
A n B = Intersection = AND = everything in A must also be in B
