Alan Barbour, the same year that Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme spirochete) was isolated in the biowarfare lab he worked in, publishes a paper showing that he had been studying the effects of antibiotics on "pathogenic" borrelia strains.

A decade later, Barbour is still making mutant strains of borrelia for vaccine studies.
