Led a team of engineers in the successful development of an E1/R2 IP Telephony Enterprise gateway enabling the company’s IP market share on legacy telephone systems.
Challenges
Every telecom company in every country implements their E1/R2 protocol slightly differently and every telecom company protects their implementation from public scrutiny. Originally assigned project while company was Vienna Systems. When they were acquired by Nokia, made inquiry to access E1/R2 Central Office switch code. Traveled to Irving Texas to evaluate feasibility of porting code. Switch was written in SDL (System Description Language) which basically describes Finite State Machines, so was easily translatable to 'C/C++' for integration onto Solaris UNIX servers and suite of existing and developing telecom cards. Returned with team for education. Mentored team through porting and integration exercise, performed planning, test planning, resource management and acquisition. Project delivered ahead of schedule. Acquired team member from Irving location.
