Developed embedded SW on a PCMCIA card for use on the Mobitex wireless packet data switch network, in partnership with global partners, helping to establish system and protocol expertise, which was utilized in future contracts. Partners included AT&T and RAM Mobile in New Jersey and Diablo Radio in California.
Challenges:
Arrived at Company as a product developer who was to port a "proven" prototype modem on a 80186 platform into a PCMCIA based product based on a Z80 processor for wireless modems on PCs, Point of Sale Terminals and other low power mobile wireless communication devices. On closer scrutiny prototype was not network worthy. Reworked prototype on 186 platform into unit ready for qualification. Ported to Z80, in coordination with AT&T Labs and Diablo Radio. Qualified unit with RAM Mobile. Responsible for interpretation of requirements, design, coding, testing, hardware debug, qualification and documentation.
