Carbohydrates are fundamental biomolecules involved in numerous biological events. They do not only serve as major source of energy for plants and animals but are also part of complex molecular architectures involved in cell protection or cell-cell and cell-host recognition. We are currently involved in research programmes devoted to the synthesis of new generations of carbohydrate mimics in the aim of controlling specific enzymatic activities that are responsible for carbohydrate processing, either to understand the role and mechanism of these enzymes or to develop new therapeutics.
Enzymatic targets are mainly glycosyltransferases (chitin synthase, fucosyltransferase) and glycosidases (fucosidase).
