The members of the Bates group collectively discussed and formulated the statement of our shared values below:

• We hold ourselves to a high standard of mutual respect and trust, as well as scientific rigor.

• We strive for open communication in all aspects of our group operations.

• We value creative teamwork and collaboration with open sharing of ideas. Each group member contributes diverse and valuable perspectives.

• We organize our group to minimize hierarchy so that each member’s science is strengthened by the others’ and results in deeper understanding.
