Healthy People
Healthy Schools, Healthy People, Healthy Environment
When I mention changing the health care system the first thing I often hear is "I don't want a socialized health care system." I agree. But the truth is that America's health care system is broken. Quality health care should not be a luxury. We need to take action to make sure that we don't have to choose between health care and financial security for our families.
I want a health care system that works. Problems in our health care system don't just affect Democrats or Republicans. We all are one serious illness away from losing everything we've worked so hard to provide for our families. Continuing our "do nothing" approach is not going to fix the problem.
What can we do at a local and state level?
Provide health care for all children
Make access to affordable health care a basic human right for all South Carolinians
Create incentives for preventive care
Empower consumers to grade their health care options with health plan report cards
Encourage employers to offer more choices to their workers
Avoid expensive litigation by offering mediation for consumers who are dissatisfied by a health plan’s internal grievance process
