Japanese Chorus Kaguya 8th Annual Concert, October 13, 2019
Inspired by the oldest Japanese folk song, Kokiriko Bushi, is from Toyama prefecture, a snowy mountainous region on the coast of the Japan Sea. The region was isolated from others and during medieval Japan, the defeated Heike clan hid in this area as told in the famous war story, the Tales of Heike. Kokiriko is a simple percussion instrument made of two bamboo sticks. Originally Kokiriko Bushi was a song for peasants and farmers praying for a rich harvest.
