Supergun. Amazon Link. (under my pen name James Somerton) This was my attempt at fiction, though it turns on real life events and people, intended to be both entertaining and informative.
Morgan agrees to provide foreign information as a side-line, though his main interest is his engineering firm and its exports. Hilary originally recruited him for the British Intelligence Service and renews the relationship to discover more about the weapons programme of a Middle East dictator. Morgan passes on to her details of a supergun and much more. Yet he begins to find that his rewards are neither expected nor wanted...
"What a technologically and politically clever piece of - fiction? Horribly believable and well written. Liked the literary references too."
"Full of authentic detail this story of intrigue and espionage will hold your interest right up to the final twist."
New Perspectives on the Late Victorian Economy: Essays in Quantitative Economic History 1860-1914, 2003, Cambridge University Press. Amazon Link. Through channels both open and concealed, the Victorian economy continues to influence us powerfully. Much economic thinking today gains support from perceptions of how the nineteenth-century British economy worked and how well it satisfied wants. Contemporary oligopolistic industrial structure is contrasted with Victorian self-regulating competition; the gross inequalities of Victorian laissez-faire are compared with support for the needy provided by the modern welfare state; and some regard Victorian values as vital principles of social organisation which should be regained. The book focuses upon three central themes: industrial organisation and technology, wages and living standards, and the monetary system. These are at the heart of discussions of productivity growth, the standard of living, well-being and poverty; the criteria by which the Victorian economic system should ultimately be judged.
A History of the World Economy: International Economic Relations since 1850, 2nd edition, 1994, Financial Times/Prentice Hall. Amazon Link. One of the aims of this book was to show, without maths or analytical diagrams, how economics could be helpful for understanding the evolution of the world economy. Another aspiration was to demonstrate that the interdependence of national economies has been a persistent feature, that could be managed poorly or well.

Choral Singing: most recently Mozart's C Major Mass. I find singing in Latin easier than in Welsh and singing bass much easier than tenor.
