I plan to document my progress here on programming for the Android platform on the Mac. I am targeting the Android platform since I am a Sprint customer. In this tutorial you will write an app "Confuse Text" that encrypts and decrypts text. Most of the information is applicable to Android Development on any platform.
This tutorial assumes that you have a working knowledge of the Java language and are familiar with using an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) such as Eclipse. In this tutorial you will build the Confuse Text App, from scratch, using 56 bit key DES encryption and decryption. This is not for secure communications.

My Favorite Evo Tips
The latest software update includes Swype, but it is not obvious how to enable Swype.
To copy the text in an old message, press and hold over the message --> choose forward, press and hold on the message to be forwarded--> choose Copy all, press go back or home on the bottom of your phone to exit.
To paste the copied text into a text message, press and hold over the text entry (Tap to compose) box --> choose paste.
The Evo has enough processing power to make speech to text useful. Try it by tapping the microphone icon in the virtual keyboard.
Have fun,
JAL
