Here’s a simple story for you: recently, a subscriber sent me a message that Pear Linux 7 was out. I then proceeded to download the live CD, install it in VirtualBox, and look around. That’s about it.
Like the story, Pear Linux’s upgrade is pretty simple. All major controls were the same; the odd but functional virtual desktop manager, the GNOME 3 activities menu, the dock, and pretty much everything else. However, the activities menu didn’t bug out when I used it without a window open. Also, the Launchpad, didn’t flicker or lag when it entered or exited the screen. In fact, I found that almost ALL of the major bugs I had found in Pear Linux 6 were gone in version 7.
Aside from the bugs, this update includes several computer management utilities (like Linux versions of CCleaner), but aside from that, there really wasn't anything new. Which isn't a bad thing. After all, I really did enjoy using the OS the first time around.
I regret that I don't have much more to say about this OS. However, stability really is the best description for this update. Not much was added, nothing was changed, and I couldn't find anything removed. If you find yourself wanting a Hackintosh, but you have ethical or technical problems holding you back, or if you just love Linux, I highly suggest you give Pear Linux a try.
Attached is my Pear Linux 6 review.
