This project, worth around £330k, was awarded to a team including myself and two other academics from City, St George's (Navid Izady and Victoria Serra-Sastre) in partnership with Health Integration Partners (HIP). The City team will be leading the quantitative analysis part of this project which is a national evaluation of the NHS Virtual Wards programme.
Virtual Wards (VWs) mean that patients can receive treatment from home, which reduces pressure on hospital beds. This project will be the first national-scale evaluation to see whether VWs have been effective at improving outcomes like patient length of stay. Depending on our findings, this could provide evidence to roll out VWs more widely and reduce pressure on the entire NHS system.
More information on this project can be found on the City, St George's website and has also been covered externally by Digital Health.
