Eastern Illinois Islamic Center (EIIC) was established in order to build an Islamic Center in Charleston, IL. Eastern Illinois University hosts Muslim faculty, staff, and students from a variety of different countries. In addition, Charleston and surrounding areas host many of our community members. A space is needed to promote Islam and exercise our faith as well as to establish a strong community in Eastern Illinois.
The project is launched and directed by EIU faculty, Dr. Hasan F. Mavi, Dr. Belayet Khan, Dr. Ahmed Abou-Zaid, Dr. Toqeer A. Israr, and Dr. Abidalrahman Moh’d. InshaAllah, our dream to establish a dedicated space became a reality with the help of Allah (swt) and dua (prayer) and the support of friends and family in Charleston and beyond.
AlhamdulillaAllah, on November 5th, 2021, EIIC purchased a property to renovate and dedicate it as a Muslim Campus House next to Eastern Illinois University (EIU). Even though the building is not fully functional, the living room is serving as a community prayer area on Fridays.
EIIC Campus House is located on the 9th street which goes through the edge of EIU campus.
We have a parking spot next to EIIC Campus House (colored blue). Red colored spaces are the parking spots belong to Eastern Illinois University (EIU).
