Cohort 3
Cohort 3 (2017) is made up of 17 social studies teachers from across Iowa. The cohort will explore key principles, concepts, and ideals in American government, including:
What are the philosophical and historical foundations of the American political system?
How did the framers create the Constitution?
How has the Constitution been changed to further the ideals contained in the Declaration of Independence?
How have the values and principles embodied in the Constitution shaped American institutions and practices?
What rights does the Bill of Rights protect?
What challenges might face American constitutional democracy in the 21st century?
The project takes place through a summer institute at the University of Northern Iowa (June 26-30, 2017), a follow-up weekend in October 2017, and a follow up event in the spring of 2018.
