Cohort 1
Cohort 1 (2015-2016) is made up of 19 social studies teachers from across Iowa. The cohort will explore key principles, concepts, and ideals in American government, including:
What are the philosophical and historical foundations of the American political system?
How did the framers create the Constitution?
How has the Constitution been changed to further the ideals contained in the Declaration of Independence?
How have the values and principles embodied in the Constitution shaped American institutions and practices?
What rights does the Bill of Rights protect?
What challenges might face American constitutional democracy in the 21st century?
The project takes place over three weekends: January 29-30, February 26-27, and April 1-2. Each weekend workshop will take place at the Iowa State Bar Association headquarters in Des Moines from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm on the Friday of the weekend and 8:30 am-3:30 pm on the Saturday of the weekend.
