Cohort 1

Cohort 1 (2015-2016) is made up of 19 social studies teachers from across Iowa. The cohort will explore key principles, concepts, and ideals in American government, including:

- What are the philosophical and historical foundations of the American political system?
- How did the framers create the Constitution?
- How has the Constitution been changed to further the ideals contained in the Declaration of Independence?
- How have the values and principles embodied in the Constitution shaped American institutions and practices?
- What rights does the Bill of Rights protect?
- What challenges might face American constitutional democracy in the 21st century?

The project takes place over three weekends: January 29-30, February 26-27, and April 1-2. Each weekend workshop will take place at the Iowa State Bar Association headquarters in Des Moines from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm on the Friday of the weekend and 8:30 am-3:30 pm on the Saturday of the weekend.
