An Encyclopaedia Of Korean Culture by Suh Cheong-Soo [Hansebon Pub. Date: May. 2004]

Hardcover: 798 pages Dimensions (in inches): 10.39 x 7.4 x 1.61

Some 2,300 color illustrations, mostly pictures, help readers understand Korean cultural terms and the proper nouns related to certain places, things and ideas. The subjects dealt with in this book are categorized into 45 chapters. Among them are not only the general or abstract topics of language, literature, arts, and religion but also the physical or concrete elements such housing, clothes, food, customary behavior, business, science, crafts, industry, information and communication. Each concept or word is explained in the order of its Romanized pronunciation, Korean letters, English translation, and then description. Indexes arranged in both English and Korean alphabetical order are available. The publisher says the major objective of the book is "to lay a basis to spread effectively Korean culture around the world." It has its own Web site (http://www.koreanlanguageculture.com), which doesn't look like it is updated often, however.
