Personal Message from President Margaret
Welcome to the website of the Inner Wheel of Reading Maiden Erlegh
I am very pleased and looking forward to be taking on the Presidency of the Club this year for the second time. I have been a member of Inner Wheel for 22 years and I transferred into this Club 16 years ago. I feel very much part of the Club as I attended its charter in 2002.
We are a very forward looking, active and vibrant club. Our current membership is 40. This has been maintained over the years. Nevertheless, we are always looking to welcome new members and only recently, at our July meeting, we welcomed two new ladies.
This year is a very special year for Inner Wheel, locally, Nationally and Internationally. On January 10th, 2024 the Inner Wheel Association of Great Britain and Ireland will be 100 years old. It was founded on this day by a group of ladies in Manchester and has grown into the International organisation it is today. The original aims of promoting true friendship, encouraging the ideals of personal service and fostering International understanding are still as relevant today, as they were in 1924. Our Club is celebrating this event in February with a Black Tie Dinner.
Alongside the fun and friendship of coffee mornings, lunches, afternoon teas, theatre trips, outings to name a few. We are also committed to helping others less fortunate than ourselves. We do this by organising Charity fund raising events eg. bridge drives, fashion shows, stalls at fetes, driving people to hospital for appointments, knitting and sewing blankets for various charities etc.
My chosen charity for this year is The Cowshed, which is local. They provide support to people and children of all backgrounds in times of crisis, offering free high quality items, such as clothing, school uniforms, toiletries and bedding. We also support other local, national and International Charities.
I am hoping as a TEAM, (Together Everyone Achieves More), we will have another successful year of true friendship and fun, supporting each other throughout.
