Always start with a hook.  This is where you first capture your audience’s attention.  You want it to be exciting.

There are different ways to open a speech including starting it with a question (relevant to the topic of the speech).

         - Use humor.

         - Use a sound effect.

         - Use a visual

         - Ask a question.

         - Give a testimony or success story.

 

Other ideas are:

1. Tell an entertaining or dramatic story.

2. Share a startling statistic.

3. Make a shocking or sensational statement.

4. Do or say something unexpected.

5. Create mystery. (Knowledge Gap)

6. Share a secret.

7. Voice the audience's own fears or insecurities.

8. Reveal a mistake you've made. (‘fess up your mess up)

9. Ask a compelling question.

10. Absurdity (Shatter the construct)

11. Paint a vivid visual (Say: “Imagine if…” or “Picture this…”)

12. Show, don't tell
