PRACTICAL MATTERS

Here is some information to give you some practical ideas about the venue of this special retreat. We are very grateful to the community of Lioba that we are welcome there so many times each year!

ADDRESS AND DIRECTIONS:

Don’t enter the village Egmond-Binnen, but follow the roundabout. On the left, about 200 meter outside the village, you’ll find the drive to the monastery.

And please note - there are 3 villages called Egmond very near each other:

- aan Zee

- aan den Hoef

- Binnen

Lioba is just north of Egmond-Binnen and can easily be found on the road Herenweg. This is the address:

Herenweg 85, 1935 AH Egmond Binnen.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:

The nearest train station to Lioba is Castricum. You can take a taxi from the train station to the monastery. It will generally cost around 20 - 25 euros. You could also take a bus from the station to the monastery. DURING THE CORONA TIMES THIS IS NOT A GOOD OPTION!

For people coming from abroad: a taxi can be called for you but you can also call for a taxi yourself: +31725331313.

The surrounding area

This area is a protected nature reservation. There are beautiful trails through the dunes to the sea.

You don't need a map to find the sea - there is a straight road to it (Middenweg). The sea is just over 3 km away from the monastery - an hour walk.

The North Holland dune area is one of the largest natural areas in Holland. It is a protected area and therefore we need a dune card to enter.

As the beach is an hour's walk from the monastery, you would either be a good walker or might choose to rent a bicycle to go there.

However just a short 10 minutes walk from the monastery will already bring you into the dunes.

ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES:

Your retreat begins on Friday afternoon, and you are welcome at the monastery at 15:00. Please do not arrive earlier. This gives you time to settle in and have a walk in the beautiful surroundings and to reflect on your intention and aspirations for your retreat. We will be staying in the main guesthouse. Your retreat ends after lunch and tidying up together, at around 14:30 on the following Friday.

FOOD AND DIETARY NEEDS:

The food at the monastery is simple vegetarian food. They are unable to cater to special dietary needs. If you have a special diet or need certain things, you are advised to bring that with you, or to go shopping in the supermarket in town (20 minutes walk).

There is a refrigerator and shelf space to store your personal food items but as this is shared amongst all retreatants, please keep that in mind when storing your things there.
