INternational Conference on Diseases in Nature Communicable to huMans (INCDNCM)

In memorium – John Gawoski

With sadness we write of the passing of John Gawoski — colleague, teacher, scholar, researcher, friend, husband, photographer – who passed away the 26th of December, 2020 from complications from a COVID-19 infection. With longstanding work and interest in infectious and tropical disease, John was an engaging and active supporter of INKY activities. We will miss his fierce dedication to the pursuit of solutions to Nature’s mysteries; the world has lost a valued, energetic and inquisitive mind.

But while his physical presence may be gone, the lessons he taught remain. The nearest thing to immortality any of us can hope to achieve is to stay alive in the memory of those who knew and loved us. We welcome those who have stories or photographs of John to share them with us at They will be collated into a memorial presentation to be posted on our INKY Youtube channel for everyone to remember him by.

Welcome to the Scientific Study of Zoonoses!

The annual International Conference on Diseases in Nature Communicable to Man seeks to increase knowledge and awareness of zoonotic disease within the medical and public health communities.

INCDNCM conferences have been held annual since 1946 and are multidisciplinary, including presentations on viral, rickettsial, bacterial, parasitic, and prion-related diseases acquired from natural sources, including animals (wild or domestic), contaminated water or food supplies, arthropod vectors and other sources.

Submitted presentations are typically 10-15 minutes in length and can describe epidemiological, genetic, clinical, ecological, diagnostic or laboratory-related aspects of the above diseases. Student presentations are encouraged.

The R.R. Parker Memorial Lecture features an invited specialist in an aspect of zoonotic disease.

Please join us for updates on some very intriguing diseases. It is always a memorable scientific event.
