Atmospheric science is a popular subject and attracting the attention of students and teaching fraternity due to innumerable exciting issues. The day-to-day variation of weather has attracted the young faculty and Bangalore Chapter is actively involved in educating the students from schools and colleges including the faculty. The India Meteorological Department has a network of weather observatories in the country. The satellites launched by ISRO are providing round-the-clock data on atmospheric parameters and weather systems, and are especially useful in monitoring cyclones over the Oceans and forecast accurate landfall. The Megha Tropiques has advanced sensors to study the cyclone structure and its dynamics. The INSAT-3D carrying vertical Sounders is providing atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles, one of the lead research areas in atmospheric modelling at meso-and global scales to improve weather forecasting and to generate climate change scenarios. In this regard, the Karnataka state has framed the syllabus on Atmospheric science and basics of meteorology for graduates and post-graduates in various discipline such as Physics, Environmental Science, Life science, Geology, Geography, Environmental Engineering, and so-on. The faculties who are teaching this subject are not exposed to many of the facilities and expressed their willingness to take up the training programs as an exposure to the atmospheric science / meteorology. This workshop is very much relevant and enhances the horizon of their understanding in the subject and they will be capable to deliver proper information/ ideas to the student fraternity.
Indian Meteorological Society of Bangalore Chapter in association with India Meteorological Department and Sir M Visvesvaraya - ISRO Chair at Bangalore University, Bengaluru organised two-days training programme during 4 - 5, October 2018 (Thursday and Friday) at India Meteorological Department - Meteorological Centre, Palace Road, Bengaluru - 560001 to encourage the activities of Indian Meteorological Society for the faculties and creating awareness among the public through popular talks and hands-on experience.
